Benchmade Barrage 583 – Tanto Assisted Opening EDC

The Benchmade Barrage 583 brings a tanto blade to Warren Osborne's Barrage platform. The 3.60" satin 154CM tanto has a reinforced angular tip for piercing and scraping work, and the AXIS Assist mechanism springs it open from either thumb stud with an integrated safety switch for secure carry. The textured black Valox handle with steel liners keeps the knife around 4.2 oz. This generation of the Benchmade Barrage tanto is discontinued, so remaining stock is limited.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Benchmade Barrage a good knife?

Yes. The Benchmade Barrage 583 is one of the most popular assisted opening knives Benchmade has made, and the tanto blade adds a stronger tip to the proven 154CM steel and AXIS Assist action.

What makes the Benchmade Barrage unique?

The Benchmade Barrage 583 combines the AXIS lock with spring-assisted opening, a pairing few production knives offer. Either thumb stud fires the blade and the integrated safety locks it closed in the pocket. It is a Warren Osborne design built in the USA.

What is a tanto blade?

A tanto blade has a flat main edge that meets a second angled edge at the tip, creating a strong, reinforced point built for piercing tough materials. On the Benchmade Barrage 583 that tanto geometry is ground from 154CM stainless steel.

Is the Benchmade Barrage 583 an automatic knife?

No. The Benchmade Barrage 583 is spring-assisted, not automatic. You begin opening the blade with the thumb stud and the spring completes the motion, which keeps it legal in many areas that restrict automatics. Knife laws vary, so check your state and local regulations before carrying.

Does Benchmade still sharpen the Barrage 583?

Yes. Benchmade's LifeSharp service will clean, tune, and resharpen the Benchmade Barrage 583 free for the life of the knife, even though the model is discontinued.

Where is the Benchmade Barrage 583 made?

The Benchmade Barrage 583 is made in the USA at Benchmade's facility in Oregon City, Oregon.

Where can I buy the Benchmade Barrage 583?

Going Gear is an authorized Benchmade dealer. The Benchmade Barrage 583 is discontinued, so availability is limited to remaining dealer stock like this listing.
