Benchmade H&K Turmoil 14808-1 – 3.47" D2 Out the Front Automatic

The Benchmade H&K Turmoil 14808-1 is an out the front automatic knife with a 3.47" satin D2 drop point that fires straight out of the nose of the handle and retracts the same way. The asymmetrical thumb slide gives a positive purchase in either direction, and the sand anodized aluminum handle sets this variant apart from the black 14808. Weight is 3.43 oz with a reversible tip-down clip.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does OTF mean on a knife?

OTF stands for out the front. The blade travels straight out of the front of the handle along its own axis instead of pivoting on a hinge. The Benchmade H&K Turmoil 14808-1 is a double action OTF, meaning the same thumb slide both deploys and retracts the blade.

How does an OTF knife work?

A spring loaded carriage inside the handle carries the blade. Pushing the thumb slide forward releases the spring and drives the blade out until it locks; pulling the slide back reverses the process and pulls the blade in. On the Benchmade H&K Turmoil 14808-1 the asymmetrical slide is shaped so you can feel which direction you are pushing without looking.

Are OTF knives legal to carry?

OTF knives are automatics in the eyes of the law, and rules differ by state and often by city. Many states now allow them, some cap blade length, and a few still prohibit them. Check your local laws before carrying the Benchmade H&K Turmoil 14808-1.

Is D2 stainless, and how do you care for it?

D2 is a semi-stainless tool steel. It has enough chromium to resist rust better than plain carbon steel but not enough to be fully stainless, so it can spot or patina if left wet or exposed to salt. Wipe the blade of the Benchmade H&K Turmoil 14808-1 dry after use, keep a light film of oil on it for storage, and it will stay clean. In exchange you get excellent edge retention at 60-62 HRC.

Why is this one 14808-1 instead of 14808?

The trailing -1 marks the alternate handle colour. The Benchmade H&K Turmoil 14808-1 carries the sand anodized aluminum handle, while the base 14808 is black. Blade steel, length, and action are the same.

Where is the Benchmade H&K Turmoil 14808-1 made?

Benchmade builds its own knives in Oregon City, Oregon, but the Heckler & Koch line was a separate licensed program and the Benchmade H&K Turmoil 14808-1 is listed as an import. The H&K line has been retired.

Where can I buy the Benchmade H&K Turmoil 14808-1?

Going Gear is an authorized Benchmade dealer and lists the Benchmade H&K Turmoil 14808-1 when stock is available. Automatic knives ship only where local law allows, and this model is discontinued.
