Two purpose-built blades, one sheath, for the back country and the path less traveled.
The Benchmade Lone Wolf 40033-COMBO pairs the Hard Way Skinner with the Hard Way Caper in a single brown nylon two-knife sheath. The idea is simple: instead of asking one general-purpose blade to do every job on an animal, you carry two small fixed blades that each do one job properly. The Skinner has the belly and sweep to open and take a hide off cleanly. The Caper has the finer, more pointed profile for close detail work around the head, cape and joints, where a wide blade only gets in the way.
Both knives are fixed blades with skeletonized open handles, generous jimping and a finger choil, so they stay controllable when your hands are cold or wet. Zytel handle material keeps the weight down. At 2.4 oz and 1.6 oz they add almost nothing to a pack, and the complete set including the sheath comes in at 5.8 oz.
The blades are Bohler N680 stainless, a chromium-molybdenum steel with vanadium and nitrogen added. N680 is known for corrosion resistance, including in salt water, which is exactly what you want in a blade that spends its working life wet. It holds a keen edge and sharpens back up easily between seasons.

Frequently asked questions
What is a caper knife used for?
Caping is the careful work of removing a hide from the head, neck and shoulders of an animal without nicking it, usually because the cape is going to a taxidermist. A caper has a short, narrow, finely pointed blade so it can work right against bone and around eyes, ears and lips with control. That is why the Benchmade Lone Wolf 40033-COMBO includes one: the 2.59in Hard Way Caper does the delicate work, and the 2.52in Hard Way Skinner does the broad work.
What happened to Lone Wolf knives?
Lone Wolf Knives was an Oregon knife company that Benchmade acquired in 2010, after which Lone Wolf models were produced and sold under the Benchmade umbrella. The line was later retired, which is why sets like the Benchmade Lone Wolf 40033-COMBO Hard Way Skinner and Caper are discontinued and only turn up as remaining dealer stock.
Is Lone Wolf a brand?
Yes. Lone Wolf was a knife brand in its own right before Benchmade acquired it, and for a period it ran as a sub-brand with its own model numbering, which is why this set carries both names: Benchmade Lone Wolf 40033-COMBO. It is not the same company as other businesses that use the Lone Wolf name in the firearms world.
Where was the Benchmade Lone Wolf 40033-COMBO made?
This set is marked Made in the USA. Benchmade builds its own knives in Oregon City, Oregon, and the Lone Wolf line was an Oregon operation before the acquisition. Origin was not uniform across every Lone Wolf model, so it is worth checking per model number, but the Benchmade Lone Wolf 40033-COMBO Hard Way Skinner and Caper is a USA-marked set.
Does LifeSharp cover this set?
LifeSharp is Benchmade's free lifetime sharpening and factory tune-up service for its own knives. Because the Benchmade Lone Wolf 40033-COMBO comes from an acquired sub-brand that has since been discontinued, we cannot promise LifeSharp coverage on it. Benchmade decides case by case what it will still service, so contact Benchmade directly before shipping this set in. The good news is that N680 is easy to bring back on a basic stone or ceramic rod at home.
Where can I buy the Benchmade Lone Wolf 40033-COMBO?
Going Gear is an authorized Benchmade dealer, so anything we sell is genuine factory stock rather than grey-market or counterfeit product. The Benchmade Lone Wolf 40033-COMBO Hard Way Skinner and Caper set is discontinued, so availability depends on remaining stock. Buying from an authorized dealer is the only way to be sure a discontinued Benchmade is the real thing.
