Going Gear Hardwood Firesteel Yellowheart – 3/8" Ferro Rod with Hand-Turned Handle

The Going Gear Hardwood Firesteel Yellowheart (fsyellowheart) pairs a 3/8" ferrocerium rod with an exotic hardwood handle turned one at a time by a professional wood turner. The design was refined over several iterations to be the most comfortable to hold in the hand. Because each handle is handmade, individual pieces vary slightly, but the overall size and shape stay the same.

The ferro rod is epoxied into the Yellowheart handle, which includes an aluminum lanyard hole. The wood is sealed and coated — not stained, so the color is completely natural — to help keep moisture out. A striker is not included, but anything with a sharp 90° edge works great: the squared-off spine of a knife, a hacksaw blade, or a Swiss Army Knife file.
