Leucadia got its start making fillet knives, because the family spent so much time fishing and diving off Encinitas, and the Ahi is built the way people who clean a lot of fish would want it. The spine is 0.110" at the handle and tapers toward the tip, so the back half is stiff enough to push through skin, cartilage, and small bones, while the front stays thin for following the backbone and taking off skin.
