ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 – 3.38" DLC Black CPM-D2 Automatic Knife

The ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 is the all-black build of Les George's Rockeye automatic folder, made in the USA by Pro-Tech Knives. It runs a 3.38" DLC-coated CPM-D2 drop point blade in a solid black 6061 aluminum handle with black hardware and a matching black pocket clip. Pro-Tech's coil-spring action snaps the blade open at the press of the push button and locks it without play. Going Gear is an authorized ProTech dealer.

Les George served ten years in the United States Marine Corps before he started building knives, and the Rockeye carries that thinking through: a full-size tactical EDC automatic knife with a broad drop point and a completely non-reflective finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the blade length of the ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2?

The ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 has a 3.38" blade on a 5.00" handle, for 8.38" overall when open. The ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 is a full-size automatic knife — big enough to break down boxes, cut webbing, or handle field chores, and still flat enough to clip inside a front pocket.

What steel is used in the ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2?

The ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 uses CPM-D2, the powder-metallurgy version of D2 tool steel. The CPM process refines and evens out the carbide structure, so compared with conventional D2 it takes a finer edge and resists chipping while retaining D2's high wear resistance. Because D2 is only semi-stainless, the DLC coating on the ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 adds a hard, slick barrier against moisture and abrasion.

What handle material does the ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 have?

The ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 has a solid 6061 aluminum handle finished in black with black hardware throughout. Machined from one piece rather than built on liners, the handle gives the ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 a rigid, no-flex feel, and the anodized black finish resists corrosion and stays non-reflective.

How does the automatic button lock on the ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 work?

The ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 uses Pro-Tech's Button Auto mechanism. A tensioned coil spring drives the blade, and one press of the push button releases it to fire open and lock. Pressing the same button releases the lock so the blade can be closed by hand. The coil-spring action on the ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 is the design Pro-Tech is known for: quick, consistent, and locked up tight with no blade play.

Is the ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 legal to carry?

The ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 is an automatic (switchblade) knife, and automatic knife laws vary by state, county, and city. Many US states now permit automatic knife ownership and carry outright, while others limit blade length or carry method. Confirm the current rules for your own jurisdiction before carrying the ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 — Going Gear cannot provide legal advice.

Where can I buy the ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2?

The ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 is available at Going Gear, an authorized ProTech dealer. Going Gear carries the Pro-Tech Knives lineup, including Les George collaborations like the Rockeye, with fast shipping and expert customer support.

Is the ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 a good EDC knife?

Yes — where automatics are legal to carry, the ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 is a serious everyday working knife: a USA-made coil-spring auto action, a rigid one-piece aluminum handle, and a DLC-coated CPM-D2 drop point that shrugs off abrasive cutting. The fully blacked-out finish also makes the ProTech Rockeye LG303-D2 a natural fit for duty carry or anyone who wants a knife that does not catch light.
