Spyderco Byrd Meadowlark 2 BY04PSBK2 – Lightweight Combination Edge EDC Pocket Knife
The Spyderco Byrd Meadowlark 2 BY04PSBK2 brings the ergonomics of the classic Spyderco Delica to byrd, Spyderco's value sub-brand, at a fraction of the cost. This particular SKU is the CombinationEdge version: roughly the forward half of the 2.97" 8Cr13MoV leaf-shaped blade is a plain edge for clean push cuts and detail work, while the rear half carries byrd's aggressive serrations for tearing through rope, webbing, seatbelts and other fibrous material.
Bi-directionally textured black FRN scales keep the knife locked into your hand while holding total weight to just 2.3 oz, so it disappears in a pocket. A sturdy back lock holds the blade open, byrd's trademark Comet-shaped hole gives ambidextrous one-handed opening, and the four-position clip carries tip-up or tip-down on either side. If you want one blade that both slices and saws, the combination edge is the version to get.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a combination edge?
A combination edge splits the blade between two grinds. On the Spyderco Byrd Meadowlark 2 BY04PSBK2 the tip section is a plain edge for controlled slicing and precise cuts, and the section nearest the handle is serrated to bite into rope, cord, webbing and other fibrous materials that a plain edge tends to slide across.
Should I choose the combination edge or the plain edge?
Choose the Spyderco Byrd Meadowlark 2 BY04PSBK2 combination edge if you regularly cut rope, straps, packaging banding or seatbelt-type webbing and still want a usable plain section for everyday slicing. A fully plain edge is easier to sharpen; the combination edge trades a little of that convenience for far more cutting aggression.
How do I sharpen a serrated section?
Sharpen the plain portion of the Spyderco Byrd Meadowlark 2 BY04PSBK2 normally on a stone or guided system. For the serrations, use a tapered ceramic or diamond rod that fits inside each scallop, work only from the front bevel side, then strip the burr off the flat back of the blade with a light pass.
How does the back lock work?
The Spyderco Byrd Meadowlark 2 BY04PSBK2 uses a spring-loaded rocker bar that snaps into a notch in the blade tang when opened. Pressing the cutout in the spine of the handle lifts the bar out of the notch so the blade can be folded closed. It is a strong, simple mechanism that works the same for left- and right-handed users.
What steel is the blade?
The Spyderco Byrd Meadowlark 2 BY04PSBK2 uses 8Cr13MoV stainless steel. It sharpens quickly, holds a serviceable working edge and resists corrosion well, which makes it a sensible pairing with a hard-use combination edge that gets touched up often.
How small is it in the pocket?
At 3.96" closed and only 2.3 oz, the Spyderco Byrd Meadowlark 2 BY04PSBK2 is genuinely lightweight. The textured black FRN handle and four-position clip let it ride tip-up or tip-down on either side, so it stays out of the way until you need it.
Is this knife legal to carry?
The Spyderco Byrd Meadowlark 2 BY04PSBK2 is a manually opened folder with a 2.97" blade, which falls under many common blade-length limits, but serrated edges are restricted in some places. Knife laws vary by state, county and city, so confirm your local rules before carrying. This is not legal advice.
Where can I buy the Spyderco Byrd Meadowlark 2 BY04PSBK2?
You can buy the Spyderco Byrd Meadowlark 2 BY04PSBK2 here at Going Gear, an authorized Spyderco dealer. Everything we ship is genuine factory stock covered by the manufacturer warranty.
