Collection: Leucadia Blade Co. Knives – American-Made Fillet, Kitchen & EDC Fixed Blades
Leucadia Blade Co. is a small, family-run knife company in Encinitas, California. Scott Wing runs it with his son Anthony and his daughter Eliza, and together they make fillet knives, kitchen knives, BBQ knives, and a few EDC fixed blades. Every design is their own, and every knife is made in the USA.
How Leucadia Got Started
Scott is a longtime knife collector and a high school history teacher. In late 2015 he and Anthony started making knives in the family garage, learning from YouTube, knife forums, and a lot of trial and error. By 2016, friends and Instagram followers wanted to buy what they were making, so they started selling under the name Leucadia Custom Knives.
Most new knifemakers start with a hunting knife or a folder. Scott and Anthony went a different way. They were in the ocean almost every day freediving, spearfishing, fishing, and surfing, and they loved to cook, so their first knives were fillet and kitchen knives. That's still what Leucadia is best known for.
After about five years and more than a thousand custom knives, the waiting list had stretched to a year. To keep up, they started having parts machined while keeping the finishing work in house. The company is now Leucadia Blade Co., and it's still a family operation.
How Leucadia Knives Are Made
Leucadia calls its approach a mix of custom and production. Small specialty shops around the U.S. make parts, and the knives are handmade or hand-finished in Encinitas. Leucadia says each knife supports at least eight small American businesses along the way.
Most of the line uses AEB-L, a fine-grained Swedish stainless steel, heat treated to about 61 HRC. Many models also get a cryo treatment. AEB-L takes a very sharp edge and is easy to touch up, which is what you want in a fillet or kitchen knife that sees salt water. The LandShark is the exception: it uses CPM MagnaCut at 63–64 HRC.
Handles are where Leucadia stands out. They use G10, stabilized wood, CamoCarbon, and colorful GCarta patterns like Mexican Blanket and SD Serape, which have become a big part of the brand's look.
The Leucadia Lineup
- Fishing: the 10" Ahi fillet and breaking knife and the 8" Hamachi fillet knife.
- Kitchen: the 8.5" Chef, the 7" Bunka, El Choppo, the Serrated 8, and the Barracuda and Snapper utility knives.
- BBQ: the 8" Marlin.
- EDC fixed blades: the Ono, the Beeradashi, and the LandShark.
- Sheaths: handmade leather sheaths cut to fit each model.
The LandShark: Leucadia x Pro-Tech
The LandShark is a collaboration with Pro-Tech Knives, the California company best known for its automatics. Leucadia designed it and Pro-Tech makes it. It's a compact fixed blade with a 3.5" MagnaCut drop point blade, an 8" overall length, a .125" spine, and a deep finger choil. It weighs about 4 oz on its own and comes with a sheath, so it's easy to carry every day and still useful at camp or on the boat.
We carry the LandShark in these handle and blade combinations:
- Mexican Blanket GCarta, stonewash
- Mexican Blanket GCarta, black DLC
- SD Serape GCarta, stonewash
- Natural Canvas Micarta with orange liners, stonewash
- 80s CamoCarbon, blue PVD
- Mahi Mahi GCarta, blue PVD
- Kelp Bed CamoCarbon, black DLC

Leucadia Blade Co. is family owned and operated. Scott Wing runs it with his son Anthony Wing and his daughter Eliza. Scott and Anthony started it in their garage in Encinitas, California, in 2015.
Where are Leucadia knives made?
Leucadia knives are made in the USA. Specialty shops around the country make parts, and each knife is handmade or hand-finished at Leucadia's shop in Encinitas, California. Much of the raw blade steel comes from Sweden. If you're shopping for American-made knives, browse our Made in USA collection. Other American knife makers we carry include Pro-Tech, White River Knives, Three Rivers Manufacturing, Heretic Knives, and MachineWise.
What steel does Leucadia Blade Co. use?
Leucadia Blade Co. uses AEB-L stainless steel for most of its fillet, kitchen, and BBQ knives, heat treated to about 61 HRC. The LandShark uses CPM MagnaCut at 63–64 HRC.
Are Leucadia fillet knives good for saltwater fishing?
Yes. Leucadia fillet knives were designed by people who fish and dive the Southern California coast, and they use stainless AEB-L steel that handles salt water well. Rinse and dry the knife after each trip and it will last. The Leucadia Ahi we carry comes with a handmade leather sheath for the boat or tackle bag.
What is GCarta?
GCarta (sometimes written G-Carta) is a handle material made by layering colored fabric with resin and pressing it into a solid block. It's tough, grippy, and fine getting wet, and because it's made in layers, no two batches look exactly alike. Leucadia uses it for its Mexican Blanket and SD Serape handles.
